A simple Scarf

Ruffles, ruffles every where! Perfect for the girly-girl in your life! Or you ;)

I knit this for my niece and she loves it...
Ruffle Scarf
by Jeanie Stave

Scarf is worked Length wise. You can substitute any bulky yarn, or knit with two strands of worsted at the same time. You want your stitches to be more loose than normal, to give your scarf a nice drape! If you are normally a tight knitter, go up a size, and if you are a loose kitter, you should be ok.

Skills needed: Knit, Purl, Yarn-overs (yo), casting on and binding off

materials:
Lion Brand Homespun Yarn (or other bulky weight yearn)
10.5 (6.5 mm) circular needle, 40 in (100 cm)

Directions:

Adult Size
Cast on 131 using Long Tail method.
Row 1- Purl
Row 2- Knit
Row 3- Purl
Row 4- Knit 1, *(yo, Knit 1)*

Row 6- Knit
Row 7- Purl
Row 8- Knit 1, *(yo, Knit 1)*
Row 9- Purl
Row 10- Knit
Row 11- Purl
Row 12- Bind off loosely

Child Size
Cast on 101 using Long Tail method.
Row 1- Purl
Row 2- Knit
Row 3- Purl
Row 4- Knit 1, *(yo, Knit 1)*
Row 5- Purl

Multiple-post day!

I posted this on ravelry too....

I am writing a pattern for a childrens' felted hat. The problem i am having is I don't crochet. I need the help of a crocheter who can write out instructions. The hat itself will be knit, but some .. attachments should be crocheted. I'd also love the co-author to create said pieces, as i SUCK at crocheting. Anyone want to help? I was planning on making the pattern free; with both persons named as authors (Me and.. you? ;) This can be up for discussion. Please email me here if you are interested in helping/co-authoring! THANKS A MILLION!!

my silk scarf

i bought two hanks of Mystical Creation Yarns (MYC) wool silk, one in 'zodiac' and the other in 'sequin'. It's thick and thin, and varies from (guessing here) a dk weight to a heavy worsted/bulky weight. I was a little surprised, because i wasn't aware of that, but I like it still. I do wish I had order two more dis-similar colorways (they are very similar- the effect I was trying to get is diminished by their similarities). I am knitting them into a scarf, inspired by all the chevron scarves I have seen on flickr. Since i don't own the "Last Minute Knitted Gifts" book, i have to wing it.
I used the jaywalker sock pattern as a guide and went from there. here is the pattern i am using.
use two color ways, A and B
on size 10 aluminum straights
easy definitions- K f/b: knit a stitch, keep loop on left needle, insert right needle in the back and knit again (increasing a stitch)
DD- slip one stitch purl wise, knit two together knit wise (K2TOG), pass the slipped stitch over the K2TOG.

cast on 26 stitches with A
Knit two rows in A
drop yarn
Knit two rows in B
drop yarn (every two rows you will switch color. the yarns will be carried up the edge. trust me, it won't be noticeable)
with yarn A
Row 1: K f/b, K 4, DD, K 4, K f/b, K f/b, K 4, DD, K 4, K f/b
Row 2: P 26
drop yarn
with yarn B
Row 3: K f/b, K 4, DD, K 4, K f/b, K f/b, K 4, DD, K 4, K f/b
Row 4: P 26

repeat rows 1-4, making sure to alternate yarns, until scarf is to length you like. end with 4 rows in garter (knit every row) then bind off.

a baby blanket pattern i made!

so i was asking dh if his co-worker was definitely having a boy. he says yes. oh, and by the way? know how i told you they are due in September? well, they aren't. they're due in august! yay!

so i started a log-cabin-esque blanket. but it was way wonky. so i frogged it entirely. here is my pattern. i may or may not add a crochet border.

CO 44, PM, CO12, PM, CO44.
row 1,3,5,: K2, P2 to marker, K12, P2, K2 to end
row 2 (and all WS rows): Purl all
row 7: K2, P2 to marker, C6 in the back, P2, K2 to end
repeat all. On row 14, C6 in the front, P2, K2 to end

that is it! make blanket as long as you like. (i just started it, so i will post pics when i am done!)

stash and yarn swaping

i realized today that knitting is a dangerous hobby.

thats right. i said DANGEROUS. be warned!
if you are a hoarder or a pack rat, or just like pretty things, back away slowly from the yarn. put down the needles. put away Elizabeth Zimmermann's opinionated books, dont open the vogue stitchionary. and for goodness sake, do not go to knittinghelp.com! they are all enablers! (i love you guys!)
i love knitting, even if i am achingly slow. i love the feel of the yarn, i love watching the fabric come into being. i love that there are literally endless possibilities when it comes to knitting patterns, stitches, colors, textures. i am in love.

i am a pack rat. i save anything that *might* be useful one day.

which has now manifested itself in the guise of yarn. i need this yarn because i am going to make little faux suede booties . so i ordered it this morning....

and isnt this tank top pretty? i have 6 skeins of lionbrand microspun in mind....

and my dh needs a summer vest for golfing. now i need a pattern, cause i already ordered 10 balls of bamboo sahara yarn.

and i want to knit cool socks. now i need a sock book, cause i already bought 20 balls from jojoland on ebay and 3 more skeins from hancocks on sale.

is there any hope for me??? i think i need more circular needles ...

as for yarn swapping. so fun so far! i am awaiting the beautiful malabrigo to arrive for my yarnee. i bought my yarnee two organic chocolate bars and i am going to make her some pretty stitch markers. i bought some colorful large jump rings and pink beads. i think she will love them (i hope!)
